PlatysInformation on Keeping & Caring for Platy Fish
Though platys swim together like other schooling fish, they are very social and like to live in groups. Keeping them in groups of 4 or more will promote good health and well being of platys. A small group of 5 or 6 is fine in a 10 gallon tank while any more than that should be kept in a larger tank. It is best to keep more females than males so that multiple females can divide the attention of the male. 2 or 3 females for every male platy is ideal. When keeping platys the best water conditions are a tank water temperature of about 80 Fahrenheit with pH values between 7.5-8.2 and hardness of about 15-30 dGH. However Platys are fairly hardy and can tolerate variations in those numbers. Platys are very social fish and great additions to community tanks. They will mix well with other platys, live bearers and peaceful fish that are similar in size. |
